Custom Laser Engraved Wooden Boxes & Plaques

All of our original and custom wooden gifts are individually & personally handcrafted, by us, in our Minnesota workshop. And although we do not do Laser Engraving - we've recently partnered with a local laser engraver that does very nice, reasonable work - and thus can now offer custom laser engraving as an option on our handmade wooden items. Custom Laser Engraved Wooden Box

This was a custom Pet Memorial Box made for a local customer. Her pet was a show dog with many awards, photos, and certificates. The customer wanted to list the major awards on the box, and have a way to display a photo. Laser engraving was the perfect solution. The lid was engraved with the awards, the front had a photo laser engraved. The customer was quite pleased with the way the box turned out, and we were quite impressed with the quality and clarity of the laser engraving.

Laser Engraved Photo / Picture

The front of the box was engraved directly from a photo/picture provided by the customer - which had a dark background. If a computer image (with the edges blended) is used, the darker retanglar silhouette would be eliminated.

Custom Laser Engraved Wording

The box lid was laser engraved with the name, a list of awards, a breif memorial and the dates. We slanted the top of the box so that the engraved wording on the hinged lid would tilt forward and be more promenent.

This box was made of Cherry, which does very well with engraving. Obviously a lighter wood shows the laser ingraving (words or photo) better than a dark wood. On darker woods, the engraver can apply lighter coloring to the engraving to have it stand out from the dark background. The laser engraving is actuall engraved from a scanned photo of the words/symbols - so the possibilities are pretty much endless.

Laser Engraved Wood Plaques

We also made a laser engraved wood plaque for the customer, using the same photo as the memorial box.

After receiving back from the engraver, we sanded the edges of the photo to try to blend the engraving. Again, if the picture is edited prior to being engraved, it could be blended much better.

We used the same router detail on the edges of the wood plaque as we used on the memorial box, but other profiles are available.

We put a 'key-hole' on the back so that the plaque could be hung, but a plaque stand could also be used. A 'key-hole' is more secure than wire or other mechanical hanging devises.

Wood plaques can display photos, wording or a combination.
